This year we have a 'big' trip planned. We are heading off to Iceland for three weeks & then tootling over to Norway for 4 weeks.
We expect it to be cold (even though it is summer in that part of the northern hemisphere), but we also expect to see incredible scenery, experience things that blow our minds & taste delicacies we've never had before.
Most of all, we expect to have fun!
To get us ready for the trip, we've been reading a few books. As well as 'Hannah Kent's 'Burial Rites' (which is brilliant by the way AND ....by a local author!) we've been flicking through the travel guides, had a page turning journey with Richard Fidler & Kari Gislason in 'Saga Land' (well worth reading) & we've lapped up the visual extremes through the photography of Jon Kraukauer in 'Iceland, Land Of The Sagas'. Additional to that I have spent many hours reading the travel blogs of those who have ventured forth before us.
With a few weeks before we leave, I'm sure there will be more to read! In the meantime....I'll be learning a few words of Icelandic, thinking about packing & wondering what Icelandic Krona (ISK) look like! Watch out for the next blog post, which will come to you from ICELAND!!!
