ON THE ROAD AGAIN...

Today we picked up a hire car for our road trip north & before long we were on our first car ferry crossing a fjord!

Once on dry land again, the scenery was as stunning as we have come to expect alongside the fjords.

We stopped & went to the loo at our first turf topped toilet!!

Then took another break at a viewpoint, which looked out over the entry to the fjord we would soon be travelling down.

We managed to catch an earlier crossing than we'd booked for...

...and sat on deck with a cuppa enjoying the exquisite landscape just roll by in front of us.

With a zoom lens we were able to spot the abandoned farmsteads, where people used to live. Later we learned about how hard their lives were & the dangers they had to face from potential avalanches.  These homesteads are an important part of the history of this area & are maintained now by a volunteer group.

We also saw lots of waterfalls, but didn't need a zoom to see those!!

When we got to Gerainger we  were amused to find a chocolate production company right here, in a boat house on the edge of the fjord!  Of course, we had to indulge.

The Fjord Centre was a very informative museum, after which we took a boardwalk down the side of a waterfall & were very mindful of the cautionary warning signs!

The water was so powerful & it raged down the mountainside, roaring all the way!

It did provide a wonderful viewpoint down into the Fjord though! There could be worse places to spend the night!!
